D-branes and Deformation Quantization

چکیده

In this note we explain how world-volume geometries of D-branes can be reconstructed within the microscopic framework where D-branes are described through boundary conformal field theory. We extract the (non-commutative) world-volume algebras from the operator product expansions of open string vertex operators. For branes in a flat background with constant non-vanishing B-field, the operator products are computed perturbatively to all orders in the field strength. The resulting series coincides with Kontsevich’s presentation of the Moyal product. After extending these considerations to fermionic fields we conclude with some remarks on the generalization of our approach to curved backgrounds. ∗E-mail address: [email protected]

Deformation quantization as the origin of D-brane non-Abelian degrees of freedom

I construct a map from the Grothendieck group of coherent sheaves to Khomology. This results in explicit realizations of K-homology cycles associated with D-brane configurations. Non-Abelian degrees of freedom arise in this framework from the deformation quantization of N -tuple cycles. The large N limit of the gauge theory on D-branes wrapped on a subvariety V of some variety X is geometricall...

Bimodules and Branes in Deformation Quantization

We prove a version of Kontsevich’s formality theorem for two subspaces (branes) of a vector space X. The result implies in particular that the Kontsevich deformation quantizations of S(X∗) and ∧(X) associated with a quadratic Poisson structure are Koszul dual. This answers an open question in Shoikhet’s recent paper on Koszul duality in deformation quantization.

Branes from Moyal Deformation Quantization of Generalized Yang Mills Theories

It is shown that a Moyal deformation quantization of the SO(4k) Generalized Yang-Mills (GYM) theory action in D = 4k dimensions, for spacetime independent field configurations, in the h̄ → 0 limit, yields the Dolan-Tchrakian p-brane action after fixing the conformal and world volume reparametrization invariance , associated with the p-brane world volume dimension p + 1 = 4k, embedded in a D = 4k...

Deformation Quantization and Reduction

This note is an overview of the Poisson sigma model (PSM) and its applications in deformation quantization. Reduction of coisotropic and prePoisson submanifolds, their appearance as branes of the PSM, quantization in terms of L∞and A∞-algebras, and bimodule structures are recalled. As an application, an “almost” functorial quantization of Poisson maps is presented if no anomalies occur. This le...

Nonabelian Poisson Manifolds from D–Branes

Superimposed D–branes have matrix–valued functions as their transverse coordinates, since the latter take values in the Lie algebra of the gauge group inside the stack of coincident branes. This leads to considering a classical dynamics where the multiplication law for coordinates and/or momenta, being given by matrix multiplication, is nonabelian. Quantisation further introduces noncommutativi...
